FFA Speech Awareness Program
The American Bovine Foundation is a non-profit organization with the goals and purposes of supporting students interested in the rural practitioner career field and large animal genetics. To promote awareness of the occupations available in the cattle industry the American Bovine Foundation would like to offer a scholarship program for FFA students.
The goal is to partner with the National FFA Counsel in providing a program at the state and national levels. The American Bovine Foundation will offer a $1,000 scholarship to each states winner of a speech contest and one $2,000 scholarship and one $1,000 scholarship on a national level. Each state winner would be able to compete for the national scholarships. Under the guidance of the FFA counsel, the ABF would sponsor each states contest prior to the National FFA convention and would like to be able to have the final contest at national convention.
With the decline in numbers over the last 25 years of veterinarians practicing bovine medicine there is a need to make the next generation aware of the career fields available to them. The ABF is conducting a national campaign and awareness program. We would like for this to be an annual event so that FFA instructors are better able to prepare their students. The Speech contest will consist each year of specific guidelines to help students research the fields of expertise available to them.
The ABF also has a grant program being put in place to provide 31 $50,000 grants to each of the veterinary graduate programs. The grants will be focused on students graduating specializing as a rural practitioners.
The ABF would like to have a booth at the National FFA Convention to heighten awareness of these career fields, the scholarship program, grant program and internship. We would desire to establish an internship program for them to be hands on one weekend of the summer months learning from the career fields available then ending working at our Gala and Expo in September. It would be a 4 month program. It is our goal to provide the internship program to not only further their education but to also enhance their college application process.
